Well, I never really had an ex, but my anthem of my freshmen/sophomore year was "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson. He lead me on, and then poof, nothing. He's probably still a jerk. Glad I got over that mess.

"My Wish" by Rascal Flatts...it's what me and my dad danced to at my wedding, and if I ever have kids, I imagine that is how I'd feel about it.

"Back to December" by Taylor Swift.....because I know that I would never be stupid enough to walk away from Taylor Lautner if he gave me flowers. Just sayin'.

ANY SONG BY KESHA....it doesn't matter what it is and how bad I think the song is...by the 8th time I listen to it I am HOOKED and singing in the car! Darn Kesha and her too-catchy tunes!

Day #1: A Song from my Childhood
This was kind of hard cause you don't think of things like this very often. As I sit here thinking, the only song that is coming to mind is the "Boy Meets World" theme song. I have written a previous blog on "Everything I learned in life came from Boy Meets World." And that is so true. It was apart of my childhood and I still believe that Corey and Topanga are the world's most amazing couple. So there's Day 1! And if you grew up in the 90s, you probably are singing the song right "When this boy meets world......boy meets world......" haha :)

BEFORE I even start writing this post, please let me preface it by saying that I do not consider myself Republican nor Democrat. I vote for the smartest person for the job---this year, honestly, I don't know who I am going to vote for! Also, I realize that everyone is entitled to an opinion----however, PLEASE do not get that construed with what is the TRUTH! It makes me want to quit Facebook when I see crap like this.....
.....this is what was on my news feed this afternoon.....while it does say 'sources' at the bottom and maybe all those numbers and figures are correct.....WHY would this alll be Obama's fault???? #1 Unemployment: Michele Bachman says that if we keep Obama unemployment will rise up to over 9%...that's FALSE. (story is linked). David Ciciline said that when Obama came to office we were losing jobs, now we are gaining them. This is MOSTLY true due to the face that David's numbers were off but we were losing jobs, now we are gaining. Here is a direct quote from the story...."We want to note, as we repeatedly have, that even though there's been improvement in the job numbers during the Obama administration, a president's ability to influence the economy is severely limited.". I rest my case.
#2 Median Income: Paul Ryan says "Household income in America has gone down for families an average of $4,000 in the last four years" while it " went up $5,000" under Mitt Romney when he was governor of Massachusetts "....THIS IS FALSE. The link will explain why.
#3:Gasoline: It is really pitiful to see this and I'm not even going to link anything because if you know just a small bit about economics, you would know that the President of the United States has zero control over gas prices. You could argue that he could have went for more domestic oil drilling or cleaner energy, but that's not what the picture says.
#4 National Debt: Kelly Ayotte said in a Town hall meeting "Under President Bush in eight years, we added $4.9 trillion to the debt. Under President Obama, we've added $5.3 trillion to the debt in the 3.5 years he's been in office." While this looks like it is favoring Bush--it's not. Obama had to add that much debt to save the auto-industry and Wall Street. If we learned anything from Roosevelt and the Great Depression its if you want to increase economic activity the government has to spend money. The link will explain other stuff as well.
So---since I've pretty much proven everything on this stupid piece of garbage in like 30 minutes--I ENCOURAGE you to PLEASE research before you vote....it is sooooo crucial. Especially in this election where both sides like to throw out 'figures and numbers' to make the other side look bad, but its only partly a sentence. Also, I encourage you to watch Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. He calls both sides out when they are wrong. It will really open your eyes.
So for now---VOTE SMART :)

The League
Ya'll, fall is my FAVORITE time of year! It is crisp weather, pretty leaves, comfy sweaters, boots, and most importantly....football! Now, ya'll know that in the south football, especially college football, is like a religion. You can get into an almost knock-down drag out with someone over football and the 'my team is better than your team' things. And I LOVE that about it. It is such a passionate debate and can make or break a Saturday for most men.
I am a Carolina Gamecock fan through and through and live for Saturdays...however, my sister and brother-in-law have invited me to play in a......wait for it.....Fantasy Football League. Oh my goodness, I feel LAME even typing it! However, I have participated in the Bracket Challenge for NCAA basketball tournament and enjoyed that and I really have zero reasons to watch football on Sunday---and that's all Justin will be doing---SOOO I joined The League. I gotta tell ya, I have NO idea what I'm doing.
Now, Justin has tried to help me out by kind of hinting at what I should know and how The League works, but it ain't looking good. So, I scoured the internet and found some good websites to help me out! Ladies-these are for you if you are in my shoes and have no clue what The League is all about it! Apparently, it can be very complicated!

The Not-So Surprising End Part 1
I don't know if you guys know this, but I HATE surprises. If I'm reading a book, I read the last chapter first just to see if I see names so I know that those people haven't died yet. While watching Pretty Little Liars, I have read the synopsis' of Sara Shepherds books to see if I can figure out who "A" is and to draw similarities and differences between the two. I also am very planned-oriented to prevent unwelcome surprises. I even knew that my engagement was coming soon because I knew when Justin went to talk to my mom and dad because I kinda freaked out a bit from not knowing. I hate surprises. I would rather know the end before starting the beginning. Which is why I think I have a slight obsession with end-time prophecies.
Now, this is a widely debated, hot topic around the world and last time I checked the end of the world is coming this year. (I am pretty sure that's not true.) Anyways, I have always been fascinated by the book of Revelation. So, to end my summer on a good note, I decided I would get a book that went through the signs of the end-times. Specifically, what the Bible says about end times. Now-it's all in there-all these signs in the Bible in verses throughout Matthew, Daniel, Revelation...it speaks of the coming times, but sometimes its hard to understand Biblical references if you don't have any background knowledge of Greek and Hebrew root words and how the Bible was translated. Sometimes, it may say something and it can be interpreted literally of figuratively. So, I did some research on books and I found one that was solid and focused everything on Biblical references. The book I chose was "What in the world is going on?" by Dr. David Jeremiah. This book goes through 10 prophetic signs of the end times and why they are important. I'm gonna briefly go through the first 3! *Mind you, there is a lot of history and symbolism...I encourage you to read this book or the Bible to gain insight into all of this*
One thing he does mention that I think is truly important is that knowing that there is a time when all these things will occur is NOT to scare us, but to give us hope. To know that death is not the finale to our lives...that we can see our loved ones again and be with them and our Lord for eternity.
1)Israel-I was not surprised the book started with this as the first sign. In fact, it goes back to 1948 when Israel was formed and the U.S. actually took a stand and recognized Israel as its own nation. There is a LOT of history in this chapter and it goes all the way back to Abraham but to sum it up, Israel and her people are descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God made a covenant with Abraham that his descendants would inherit the land He gave to Abraham and be a mighty people. Interestingly, that land actually isn't just the nation of Israel herself, it's pretty much all of present day-Iraq and some of Saudi Arabia. This can be found in Genesis 15:18. That actually hasn't come yet. We are pretty much just waiting on a peace treaty that Israel will sign with her enemies and that will last for 7 years. Then, Israel will be attacked like never before, and only Christ's return will finally bring true peace to Israel.
2)OIL-According to the book, oil is the new gold in the world economy. It is the most valued by the industrialized nations of the world. He questions "Why is the final battle of Armageddon fought in the middle east according to the scriptures?" Well, because that's where you will find oil. He also says that the Garden of Eden was in the middle east (many believe this to be true) and that is why the middle easy is so richly blessed with oil (according to a geophysicist interviewed in the book oil deposits result from the decompositions of plant and animal life now buried by eons of time. Oil is found all over the world, including under the ice of the arctic, which means at one point, there was lush vegetation and animal life on every part of the world. And was destroyed by a cataclysmic event (The flood) He says the richest and deepest deposits of oil are under the sands of the middle east where the Bible says the Garden of Eden was. Meaning, the gas you pump into your car might be the remains of Eden---pretty cool). Anyway, he thinks that oil is going to be the driving point to get to the final battle.
3)Europe-Now this was my favorite chapter so far. He talks about the dream that God gave to Nebuchadnezzar and to Daniel. It was prophetic dream the no one could interpret but Daniel. It was a dream about an image. The head was gold; the chest and arms were silver, its belly and thighs are bronze, its legs are iron, and its feet are partly of iron and partly of clay (Daniel 2:29-33). Amazing that his actually symbolizes kingdoms. Daniel says that this image was about the kingdoms that would rule over Israel in the days ahead. The gold head represents Nebuchadnezzar own kingdom of Babylon. The silver chest and arms represents the Medo-Persian Empire that conquered Babylon in 539 BC. The belly and thighs of bronze represent Greece, which took over after the Medo-Persian empire was defeated. And the two iron legs represent Rome. The two legs are also important because by A.d. 395 Rome was split into two political areas of rule (Latin-speaking West and Greek Speaking East [also known as Constantinople or present day Turkey[). So all of this has taken place. What has NOT taken place is the feet of this image. Daniel foretells of a time when the Romans will consists of ten kingdoms or leaders. It is partly clay, partly iron meaning it is weak. These are represented by the ten toes. Dr. Jeremiah says that this represents the present-day European Union. Eventually, he says they will consolidate and have ten leaders to rule over Europe. This is also where the antichrist will come from.
WOW-that was A LOT. Prophecy can be overwhelming, but its good to know that God's plan is written down and we can know it. It does give me hope that death is not the end and that Jesus will come back to rule on this earth. While you may be thinking, "How can we know for certain that these prophecies will actually come true?" I'm going to leave you with this fact for you by Dr. Tim LaHaye, coauthor of The Left Behind series....
"No scholar of academic substance denies that Jesus lived almost 2,000 years ago. And we find three times as many prophecies in the Bible relating to his second coming as to His first. Thus, the second advent of our Lord is THREE TIMES as certain as His first coming, which can be verified by historical FACT."

It's been a while....
Since I've been here on the computer typing away....while I feel that my typing days are not over, I do feel that this blog served the purpose of putting words down when I was stressed with wedding planning. Since I am a teacher and summer is the most unstressed time of my life, I haven't written as much. So, I'm gonna try and get back in the swing of things (with 3ish weeks til school starts back...ohmygah!)....cause when there's school and teaching, there's always something worth writing about....and I'm gonna do a countdown cause it makes me feel more organized :)
Top 5 things I've enjoyed this summer:
1) Marriage-obviously this should be #1 because most of the time I feel like I live with my best friend who is my roommate. We get along really well in the same dwelling place. Interesting to see how this unfolds as work starts back for me.....but for now, I am loving it and love to take care of him.
2)Organization-I have used this summer to organize. I have organized for school, the house, and just in general trying to organize life. I have a NEW Teacher Toolbox, NEW Teacher Binder and NEW Home Management Binder! I have found out that a menu planner and grocery list will save you TONS of money without having to clip coupons! And it'll probably save me time during workdays!
3)The Dark Knight Rises-While I was going to dedicate a WHOLE blog post on this, my friend Katie did an awesome job of recapping the movie and answering some questions that we all had. (http://www.kteliz.blogspot.com/) I did go to the Midnight Premiere and it was awesome and I went back that Sunday and it was even more awesome. Justin and I are really hardcore Batman fans and even though we've seen the movie, he still plays his Batman games, reads Batman comics, and at the beginning of the summer we 100%ed LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes (which I totally recommend). *One small note on TDKR----I feel that this would be the PERFECT opportunity to make a Justice League movie after the ending of TDKR so if Joseph Gordon-Levitt were Batman OR Robin, it would be super awesome to through Superman in there with the release of "Man of Steel" in 2013!.....Just my personal opinion though!
4) Reading!: One of my PERSONAL favorite things to do in the summer is to READ! I love to read for pleasure and really don't like when I am assigned to read, but I was assigned a book called Focus and really liked it. It really 'focuses' on Common Core Standards (which are coming and teachers are ALREADY preparing for them). A couple of awesome books that I read were "The Scent of Fear" by Tom Adair which was a murder/mystery thriller so to speak. Wasn't written bad but not good either but kept me guessing until the last chapter! What I shouldn't have wasted my time on was "The Fifty Shades of Grey" Books. Truthfully, I was excited to read them...however after I finally finished the 3rd book I was like "omg". I mean its unrealistic in its 'carnal' expectations of what happens in the bedroom and in marriage. Also, I feel that a book should have ONE central plot and then break into the climax and then resolve the issue.....however these books had several DIFFERENT issues that would resolve and another would come along. It was exhausting keeping up with the plot. Plus, it was extremely POORLY written--especially by the third book. I am now onto a Prophecy book by David Jeremiah. Very historical and very Biblical. More on that later.
5) TV: When I have days that I don't go anywhere, which in the summer are a lot, I can only clean so much. So, I've gotten into a routine with my Television and even my breakfast. I have found this Kellogg's Crunchy Nut cereal is my absolute favorite thing for breakfast. I eat a bowl with a cup of coffee from my awesome Keurig. Then from 8-11 its Will & Grace reruns and from 1-4 its Grey's Anatomy reruns and then How I Met Your Mother comes on. And that's all on Lifetime :) I also got hooked on the shows Chopped and Project Runway!
So there's a rundown of my summer. A little bit of this and that...and then in about 3 weeks my freedom is gone and I will have 140 fresh new faces in the 7th grade. :) I may as well enjoy it while it lasts!!

I have found this Kellogg's Crunchy Nut cereal is my absolute favorite thing for breakfast. I eat a bowl with a cup of coffee from my awesome Keurig. Then from 8-11 its Will & Grace reruns and from 1-4 its Grey's Anatomy reruns and then How I Met Your Mother comes on. And that's all on Lifetime :) I also got hooked on the shows Chopped and Project Runway!
So there's a rundown of my summer. A little bit of this and that...and then in about 3 weeks my freedom is gone and I will have 140 fresh new faces in the 7th grade. :) I may as well enjoy it while it lasts!!

It's funny how some things work out; it's funny how they don't.
So this is my first blog after being hitched and I have to say married life is awesome. As I sit here in OUR apartment watching OUR TV and looking at OUR furniture, I think back to how I got here. I think it all started out when I didn't get into Clemson (which is such a blessing now!). I was crushed when I received a letter in the mail saying that someone hadn't sent in my transcripts and my application was not filed on time so I couldn't go. And so I ended up at USC Upstate--which is where I met a guy who roomed with a guy who went to high school with Justin....and then I think that is weird. It's amazing how God truly has a divine and perfect plan and yet I still doubt Him sometimes. And it's an awesome thing that it didn't work out with any other guy--that one guy that I was infatuated with for 2 years in college (My US 4 NO MORE group knows who I'm talking about)---he doesn't hold a candle to Justin...to the man that he is. And I am GRATEFUL more than anything that I finally listened to Blake and Lee and Bailey (who are the smartest 3 people I know :) ) So yea, my happiness that I have now is credited to God and the friends he put in my life. They do say hindsight is 20/20. I just wish I knew then what I know now and I wouldn't have wasted so much time giving my feelings and time to a guy that was a jerk and led me on. I am completely and utterly happy. I know now that to trust God is the only way to live your life. He knows the plan. Just trust him and follow it.

Top 10 Things I've Learned From Wedding Planning That Could Help Plan Yours
As I am winding up my wedding planning, I can honestly say it has been a JOURNEY. I have learned a LOT about Wedding Planning. I have always loved weddings and I got my first taste of planning when I did Kim Starnes Blanton's wedding (which was a real success since we literally planned the whole thing in the cab of her Dodge truck). It was such a THRILL when it all came together and the Bride was happy with everything! I have had 2 years to plan mine and with that I have learned A LOT...some things I never thought to think of that if I could go back and do it again, I would do it differently. My hope is that if you are newly engaged, thinking about marriage someday, or an aspiring wedding planner---or just curious with my life in general lol---then read ahead for my Top Ten Things I Learned From Wedding Planning That Could Help Plan Yours Blog post :) Enjoy!!!
1) RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH
With the internet, it is super easy to do this. People ask me all the time "Why are you getting married in Lexington?" Well for one, its Gamecock Country (woot woot!) and second, there's NOTHING in or near Gaffney that is as pretty or cool, or all-inclusive as Wintergreen Woods. Once I visited the place, I fell in LOVE with it and was hooked. It took me about 5 months to research and find this place, so the first thing you do when planning a wedding is to research the venue. And even then, you may be too late---places that are good BOOK UP FAST, so get it quick. This is the reason we are getting married on a Friday--all Saturdays were booked up 7+ months in advance!
2)SET A BUDGET AND STICK TO IT
Originally, our budget was not big and we were going to have a small wedding with less than 80 people....however, its quickly ballooned because things cost a lot. And you HAVE to invite like every one you know! LOL But beware, simple things can add up quick. Sitting down and talking with parents, and your fiance is not the easiest or most awesome talk---but definitely needed.
3)KEEP YOUR ATTENDANTS IN MIND
Yes, I know that its YOUR wedding and YOU are the Bride which ultimately makes YOU the decision maker, but also be aware that your attendants are there for you and that they are sacrificing their time, money, and selves for your special day. When I started shopping for Bridesmaid dresses, I asked them what they wanted to wear...I mean they should have a say since they are the ones wearing it. I took their suggestions and with my pretty awesome taste have some pretty awesome Bridesmaid dresses!
4)POSTAGE IS EXPENSIVE
On the money issue, when you look for invitations, research some postage prices for the styles you like. Believe it or not, I learned that when you have a square envelope the price doubles for postage, and if it weighs more, it can cost even MORE...that's money you could use on your Honeymoon!
5)HONEYMOON
For me and Justin, this was the biggest issue that we both had inputs on. He wanted a cruise and I wanted a Sandals Resort of some sort. Choose your destination early and save up....lots of things like airfare and hotels add up quick. Look on Groupon for hotel deals on their Getaway page which can save a lot and COMPROMISE. For Justin and I, he got the cruise, but I got a plane ride there and a balcony. Win-Win. :)
6) DIY IS OK
There are LOTS of ideas on Pinterest and other blogs that can help you DIY your wedding--which can also cut cost! For me, I printed my own invitations and programs. The DIYing invitations can take a lot of time and effort, but its worth it. Plus, when people receive them and LOVE your invites--You can be all like "I totally did that myself....I'm awesome"
7) MUSIC
This is probably my favorite. The music of the wedding sets the tone. I like a good mix. With my venue, I was able to HANDPICK every song that will be played...even reception music. I am going with all 'canned music' as some people call it where they just press play and there are no musicians. This can save time and money because all your venue has to do is make a playlist and no one can mess up the songs!
8)FOOD
This is a HUGE deal. The time of your wedding determines what you should serve, believe it or not. If the ceremony is between 12-4 you are okay to serve light hors d'oeurves or a popular less-expensive alternative is a dessert only reception. If it is after 6, then your guests will expect REAL FOOD. This means HEAVY hors d'oeurves if your wedding is not super formal. If you are having a full formal wedding, you need to serve an actual sit down meal. Sit down meals can also be less expensive because you know exactly how much food to cook and what.
9)PERSONALIZE
This is your and your finace's wedding! OWN IT. Make it special. Do something different...do at least one thing that people can talk about later and be like "Wow, that was awesome."
10) ASK FOR HELP
You are only one person. I know through this whole process that it has been tiring and I have been literally ready for it to be over....but know that your attendants, parents, close friends, relatives can help you. Even if its just with ideas, or day-of stuff. This was especially hard for me because I am kind of a control freak and its hard to let people help. Letting people take over some stuff can actually free you up some time for other super important stuff.
So that's it. That's my list. Also, this is your wedding. If you want to do it, do it. Don't worry about what other people think---cause if they are there for the right reason, they will see that it is purely both of your personalities coming out in the ceremony and reception, and they will LOVE it. Because they LOVE you! :)

All in the Family
Coming back to my 'best friends' post I gotta say that two of my MAIN best friends are actually in my immediate family. These people have known me for 26 years, I have fought with them more than anyone in my life, cried with them, laughed with them, loved with them, and lived with them. I'm talking about my mother-who I hope to be half the wife she is to my father, and my sister-who has the most amazing soul of anyone I've ever met.
My cousin Hannah told me last week that I would not be the person I was today if I hadn't have been raised by my mom. My mom is known for being very easy going and funny. She can make me laugh most days (unless I'm grumpy in the morning) and she has the biggest heart. My mom is one of the few moms who actually parent the correct way...she put EVERYTHING on hold and everything else on the back burner when me and Jamie were born and put us first. She didn't buy clothes or jewelry or the fancier things in life. She did without so that me and Jamie had the nice things. She even made sure my dad had the stuff he needed before she got anything. My mom is also a very spiritual woman. She loves the Lord more than anything. She has a good moral compass and knows right from wrong. With her, there is very little grey. It was always black and white with her. Which, at the time when I was growing up wasn't all that good. And mama also believed in corporal punishment, which I also believe directly affected my way of life! My mama is the BIGGEST inspiration in my life. I have learned SO MUCH from her in 26 years--how to cook (almost lol), how to wash clothes, how to 'properly' clean, how to send Thank-You notes, southern hospitality and etiquette....all that I have learned from her. She is the one thing in my life that has stayed constant for 26 years--never changing, solid as a rock, and always had my back. She will be the reason that I have turned out that way I have, and I am pretty durn proud of that.
My sister has been dubbed by Katie Simmons as "one of the funniest people" she has ever met. (she gets that from my Mom) And, I have to agree. Some of the happiest times have happened in my life with my sister----and some of the worst times. But all that again makes me who I am today. She can sometimes be blonde but she is just a happy soul to be around. She has the heart of a child most days but can turn around and have the wisdom of veteran Christian woman in seconds. She baffles me and while our personalities, tastes, and likes are completely opposite, there is nothing I would trade or take back from our childhood...(except maybe for jumping that pool fence in the winter and Mama catching us---wow we got in trouble!) Jamie did go through a small change from high school to college and it was a very good change. She matured a lot and decided she was going to beat me to the altar! She picked an amazing guy to be her husband--I honestly couldn't have picked a better one myself. As I talk to Jamie about marriage now and what all that entails, I know that Jamie is doing it right. There are right and wrong reasons to get married and right and wrong ways to 'do' marriage. Just because you have a child with someone does not mean you should get married. I know that is NOT the reason my sister and Andrew got married (lol) but they actually got married for the right reason--Because you love someone, you date them, get to know them, and find out who that person is. That relationship should be based around Jesus and his plan for both of you as a unit. That is what Jamie and Andrew have. I see that when they look and talk and laugh with each other. That is definitely why I look forward to getting married so that I can share that with Justin.... and I do look at their relationship as a model. They are really an awesome pair.
So that rounds out why I am the way I am.....There is a song by Eric Church that says..."I wouldn't be who I am today if it weren't for those who I've loved along the way"....this is exactly why I've shared all this. Those people who have shaped me and molded me to the person that I am today. And while I have my moments, I think I turned out pretty good.

"Are ya'll twins?"
I wish I had a dollar for every time I have every heard that phrase come out of someone's mouth about me and my cousin. Seriously, I could almost retire....and have a Chanel wardrobe. They say cousins have a special place in your heart-especially if you are close. My Wood family is a pretty close bunch....and I don't have a childhood memory without Bailey. Whether it was at Nana's or school, me and Bai were usually attached at the hip. We are very close in age (she's older by 2 months and 4 days!) and we both have red hair, same height and body build (mostly), but when we were young, all of the people we met thought we were twins. It was honestly every day someone asked us. I remember I was so excited when Bai actually moved schools and came to Daniel Morgan and became a Patriot :). Even then, teachers and students all asked us, 'Are ya'll twins?" I remember saying no to one person and them asking 'are you sure?" YES, I am sure....weirdo. Anyways, Bai is considered one of my best friends/cousins. Not only have we been in the same grade all of our lives (and most of the same classes----HOLLER at AP Calculus!-best. class. ever.) But I even got to see her at Christmas and Thanksgiving, and Summer! We had a great group of friends in middle school and that was the best time. Bai, Me, Casey and Brittany had the best time in middle school and on into high school and the inside jokes and memories were countless! I still laugh about all kinds of things that we did---mostly stupid, but still fun. After high school, I thought me and Bai were done with being in the same grade together :( She was planning on going to Winthrop and I was going to USC Upstate....BUT Bai received a scholarship to USC Upstate and decided to come with me! I was so relieved and soo excited because I KNEW someone my freshmen year! While apparently she was on the "Smart" 4th floor of the Palmetto house and I was on the 1st floor (which as Blake and Lee put it-the 'slow' floor), it was still awesome. That year, we spent MOST of our time "Studying" in the 4th floor lobby and laughing. I believe that first year, I laughed so much--probably more than I have ever! So, I got to spend 4 more years with Bai, at the same school and still see her on Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Summers! It was great. We had so much fun together.
While the fun memories with Bai are what I like to remember all together, we have had some downs in 26 years of knowing each other. Yes, we've fought and got mad at each other, but we have always, always come back to love. I mean that's what it is. I love Bai as a friend, but it also goes deeper than that. I love her as family, too. Some of my favorite things about Bai is that she's different. She doesn't care if NO ONE else likes something, she'll like it cause she likes it. She's about the only person who had a camouflage purse and rocked it very classy :). She's stubborn and has a temper---which all red heads do! But she will stand up for her family and friends in a heartbeat, whether she thinks they are right or not. She LOVES her nephews and is probably the best aunt that anyone could ever ask for. She's hilarious and should definitely have her own TV show--I know I would watch. Bai is also one of the most thoughtful people in the world. I can't tell you how many times she has given me a "gift" for just the heck of it! So, maybe I'm not an actual 'TWIN" to Bailey---physically. But the inside would be what I would hope to copy. The loving, fearless, thoughtful, kind, and beautiful person that I know. :) Love you Bai.

Homesick
Tragedy. Death. It can come in the blink of an eye. I've experienced it in my life; 3 times to be exact.
#1: The first was the horrible sound of a 2 a.m. phone call and my mom telling me to get up and that "Papa was sick". I was 10 that night. It was the first time I was really scared of losing someone. We had just had a birthday party for my Papa the night before. He was around family and friends and he was happy. Then, just like that, he was gone. Heart attack was to blame. I didn't fully understand what was happening at the time. I just knew that it wasn't good. I remember walking through his beautiful, overflowing garden that night with my mom-the red dirt between my toes, and my mama saying "Who's going to take care of this garden if he can't?" Well, no one can. That once overflowing, lush garden is now just grass.
#2: The second time was different. My PawPaw was sick. We already knew that he was diagnosed with cancer and that, while he was being treated, the looks on the grown-ups face were not good. Finally, it was actually time to say good-bye. This is something that I did not understand at the time. I didn't realize that when I went in and hugged him and said 'I love you', that it would be the last time I would see him. Needless to say, that Christmas was not the same.
#3 The third time was my Memaw. (married to my PawPaw). She had some blockages in her heart and she was going in to the hospital for surgery on her heart. We got the call from my dad, that while the actual surgery was successful, My Memaw never woke up again. It was hard to believe that. It was hard to understand that the first two deaths I had experienced were not only unavoidable, but not caused by Doctors who wanted to do surgery on them. This one was different. I remember thinking, 'If she had just not had the surgery, she would be fine.' But also, I came to realize that things happen for a reason--and that maybe she just missed my PawPaw.
Death is unavoidable. You can't run from it. You can't hide from it. And it is not going to pass you over and let you live for 1000 years. When looking at the big scheme of things, the fighting, the having bad feelings towards something, not forgiving someone or asking for forgiveness, not enjoying your life is the biggest mistake to have ever committed. WHY waste a small amount of your PRECIOUS life harboring angry feelings, or not living your life to the FULLEST??? Yes, it sounds easy--but to get up every morning and to actually put that into effect is hard.
But we are human. We are sinful, and we do make mistakes. Since, I know Jesus, I know that those three wonderful people I lost, Papa, PawPaw and Memaw are waiting for me. I think MercyMe says it best in their song "Homesick". The reason that we cry when bad things happen is--yes we miss them--but if we are in Jesus, we know that we can see them again.
In light of recent events, I felt this was a good thing to write about. It not only helps me deal with tragedies that happen unexpectedly, but it serves as a reminder that when we are in Christ, there is no goodbye.

I remember thinking, 'If she had just not had the surgery, she would be fine.' But also, I came to realize that things happen for a reason--and that maybe she just missed my PawPaw.
Death is unavoidable. You can't run from it. You can't hide from it. And it is not going to pass you over and let you live for 1000 years. When looking at the big scheme of things, the fighting, the having bad feelings towards something, not forgiving someone or asking for forgiveness, not enjoying your life is the biggest mistake to have ever committed. WHY waste a small amount of your PRECIOUS life harboring angry feelings, or not living your life to the FULLEST??? Yes, it sounds easy--but to get up every morning and to actually put that into effect is hard.
But we are human. We are sinful, and we do make mistakes. Since, I know Jesus, I know that those three wonderful people I lost, Papa, PawPaw and Memaw are waiting for me. I think MercyMe says it best in their song "Homesick". The reason that we cry when bad things happen is--yes we miss them--but if we are in Jesus, we know that we can see them again.
In light of recent events, I felt this was a good thing to write about. It not only helps me deal with tragedies that happen unexpectedly, but it serves as a reminder that when we are in Christ, there is no goodbye.

"The Duo"
Keeping with my last post on friendship, I promised that I would highlight other friendships that have not only made me who I am today, but have influenced my life in a good way. One in particular is quite special. She goes by many names, KTS, Simmonez, #12, but I just call her Katie. Wayyy back in 9th grade at Gaffney High was when I first met Katie. I didn't know if I could actually be friends with her because she went to Ewing Junior High, our rival school. You automatically went in to 9th grade staying with "your" group, so I hung out with my Granard gang for a long time. It wasn't long until I met another friend in my GHS Success class (lame) named Jenna Kaye Flythe. We became friends, and through her and others my Granard group merged with the Ewing group. This included a lot of NEW friends, but Katie has been unique in my friend circle. Katie was ALWAYS up for fun. I know that she LOVED going to Bronco's (probably because of the 'virgin' strawberry daquiri's that were oh so good!) but she was always like 'let's go hang out'. If you have never met Katie, she is honestly one of the funniest people I know. She is quick on her feet with witty sayings and she actually writes really good. She has her own blog which was the inspiration for me to write my own. One thing that we nicknamed ourselves was "The Duo". I am not sure WHY we did this, but I do remember it was at a high school football game (which was an EVERY Friday night thing). Football games were fun because Katie actually knew what was going on in the game and would watch it! You didn't have to tell her what was happening when a flag was thrown, unlike Laura (which now Laura knows football, too!) :) Anyways, high school is where a lot of our inside jokes come from, like, Mindy and the Sexy Girls hotline, rolling down a hill in College Park and Bai losing a shoe, getting chased by black girls in Casey's mom surburban (that actually happened-and we did NOT get to go Bowling!), and can we forget Senior Week '04? I mean some of my fondest and most memorable times were had with that group and Katie was always apart of it.
OK, ENOUGH of memory lane, but Katie is SUCH a good friend, one of my best friends. Not because of all the stuff that we went through in high school--but because no matter what happened AFTER high school, she has always been there for me. I always can call her or text her and she will always respond. She's there to listen to me when I need her and she is one of the strongest Christians I know. She has shown me what kind of love God wants us to show others because she has shown me that. Katie is good. And one thing unique about our friendship is that I have never, ever been mad at her. Not even a little bit. Never said anything negative about her. Never thought anything bad. She has been through a lot in the past couple of years but I have never seen her lose sight of her faith and her friends. She is one amazing person and I am completely grateful to have her in my life. Katie just gets me. It's actually hard to put down in word form, but that's what it is. So, thank you Katie for being in my life--and now a Bridesmaid :) I love you Duo!

BFFs
You know, I've been thinking a lot about the word "Friend", lately. Dictionary.com defines the word 'friend' as
1 a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
3. a person who is on good terms with another; a person who is not hostile:
We see that word on social network sites all the time. If you are 'friends' on Facebook, I feel that it doesn't necessarily mean you are actually friends. I mean people use Facebook, Twitter, and all kinds of social networking to be hostile to each other; they use it to stalk, or check up on people, just to be nosy. And you know that the relationship is SO not official until your status says you are now 'in a relationship'. But those are just labels. I mean What REALLY makes a friend, a friend???
I have been blessed in my life to know what real friendship is. To know that I have people in my life that I can truly count on. People say you only can have one best friend, but I feel like that's not true. There are so many different facets of your life that I feel you need multiple people to be in those certain areas. For example, Justin, my future-groom is one of my best friends. He knows me better than anyone on this earth. And while I CAN talk to him about anything---some stuff he just does not care about (namely, shoes, purses, Zac Efron, and that latest gossip around town). That's stuff that is just not interesting to him. Which is where my other best friends come in. There's only a few and they are very special to me, but I am going to highlight just one in this post. (more to come later).
I have known this person for about 4 years. She was one of the first people that I got to know when I went to work at Gaffney Middle. Kim (Starnes) Blanton has been my rock through all kinds of messes in 4 years. Sometimes, we get those friends who say they will be there when the going gets rough and then it does and for some reason they can't handle it and just look the other way when it happens--Kim is not one of these people. It doesn't matter what time of day, what I need, when I need it, she has been faithfully there. I literally can call her and she will stop what she is doing just so I can 'vent' about something. She can do the same to me. She has never let me down--not one time. If I am sick and need lesson plans done, I can text her and they get done. She isn't even on the same hall as me anymore but if I need her she comes-a-running. There is a 'slight' age difference between us but I think that's why it works. We are both teachers and God knows I am still learning stuff. She's been teaching for 14 years and if I have a question, she always has an answer. And those answers are always truthful--even if its not what I want to hear. We got really close in a short amount of time and the trust between us in unlike something I haven't ever had with a friend who is a girl. Ya'll know girls cause drama and like to talk but I have YET had it happen with Kim, and I don't ever think it will happen. She even trusted me enough to direct and pretty much plan her wedding! (Even with a few meltdowns--we did it!) I guess if I had one word to describe her it would be 'constant'. She is the same person with everyone around her. There is not another face that she turns on---you get what you get. I feel like we all need a little more of that pure, honest, down to earth personality here on earth a little bit more. And I am completely and utterly grateful to have had a friendship like hers. My wish for everyone who may read this is that you have someone in your life like Kim. She is good people. :)

Everything I ever need to know in life I learned from Boy Meets World.
If you haven't been paying attention to anything I've been doing, here's an update. In December, I went on Amazon and bought all 7 seasons of "Boy Meets World." While it set me back about $70, it was MORE than worth it. (I also justified that it cannot be found on Netfllix or Hulu, so this would be the only way to see it!) I finally finished the entire series last night. I literally cried my eyes out. It is just so wholesome, and true, and made you feel all warm inside. Plus, Eric Matthews is just funny as hell in seasons 4-7 especially. (Sidenote: The 90s were the BEST time and the BEST TV to grow up on. We didn't need no stinkin' iPods or computers. We had our gigapets, gameboys, and TGIF.) Anyways--back to the whole point of this post, I found that I am NOT the only fan of Boy Meets World. I found an interesting article entitled "Everything I needed to know in life I learned from Boy Meets World." It is true. It is a blog post by a girl named Emily Grier and she is quite good with everything she says. The link to that article is here. I encourage you to read it. Very, very good. Now, if you are an avid Boy Meets World fan as I am, a lot of people have created still moments from the show that I would like to show to you here....These are some of MY favorites and some that DEFINE the show as a whole.
And all of that is full of Eric Matthews.....honestly, this is one of the best shows ever created. This would be in my TOP 10 of Reunions from TV Shows. And if this pictures weren't enough....You cannot talk about Boy Meets World without talking about "The Feeny Call". :) :) :) Enjoy!

Welcome to Ms. Mathis' History Class.....
Tonight, while my dad was flipping through the TV and he stopped on ETV. There was some kind of show on about Harry Connick, Jr. and tracing his ancestors. Apparently, his ancestor James Connick signed up to fight for the Confederate Army. When Harry found out about this, not only was he embarrassed that his family was on the side of the South, but he was very disrespectful to his ancestor and anyone else that fought for the South. He kept looking for a reason his ancestor would join the Confederate Army and it not include him condoning slavery or owning a slave. Are you kidding me??? His biggest mistake was not knowing anything about history. I am here to give you a quick history lesson so you don't make that same mistake...
Origins of the American Civil War:
Confederacy (South) vs. Union (North)
Slavery was an issue and a cause in disunion between the North and the South. Slavery had become very popular in the south because the south was conducive to growing cash crops, like tobacco, cotton, and indigo. The first slaves to leave Africa, and the majority of the slaves to leave Africa actually ended up in South America.----NOT in the Southern states of North America. Southerners, while holding slaves, thought that if the Federal government actually held a restriction against slavery that it violated states' rights'. They felt that it would make the Federal government too strong. "As a panel of historians emphasized in 2011, "while slavery and its various and multifaceted discontents were the primary cause of disunion, it was disunion itself that sparked the war." Other factors that helped catalyst discontent among North and South were tariffs, party politics, abolitionism, Southern and Northern nationalism, expansionism, sectionalism, and economics. All of these things actually contributed to the American Civil War.
I hear all the time from students that I teach that the Civil War was fought because of slavery. While slavery was a major issue, it wasn't THE ONLY issue. Also, I know my ancestors fought for the South, some of them. Why would I be ashamed of that?? Have I ever owned a slave? Do I support racism? No and no. In fact, I should be proud that one of my ancestors stood up and was willing to go to war to fight for something that he believed in so wholeheartedly--whether we think it was morally right or not. Slavery was a big issue--and yes, it happened. We should accept it and not be ashamed of it. Make sure it doesn't happen again. And if slavery was really what the Civil War was fought about, why were there African American soldiers that willingly fought for the South? Before you go and make yourself look absolutely uninformed about anything (like Harry Connick, Jr), do some historical research and make sure you know all the facts.
Quick fact: About 70% of white Southerners did not own slaves. Those who did owned 20 or less, and those who owned 50 or more were few and far between.

The world will be watching,,,,
One of my most memorable midnight showings was when I went to see New Moon with my sister and some of our friends. We went to Spartan 16 and it was awesome. We sat in the lobby and played card games for a couple of hours and we were just so excited! I sacrificed a lot that night....drove back from USC-Upstate at like 4 in the morning and got up and went to school and taught all day the next day! I was extremely exhausted by 3:20 but it was totally worth every minute of sleep lost.

And "A" is.......... *LIVE BLOG*
Okay kids, tonight is the night........The finale of Pretty Little Liars! "A" will be revealed....definitely have waited for this day for a while!!!
I will be live blogging my thoughts throughout the entire episode as well as a my final thoughts on the outgoing season!
There have been lots of guesses from Mona, Jenna, Garrett, and even that Ali has a TWIN! Now it is suppose to be different than the books--which I am currently on the first one---but the Twin theory seems to be the most popular via Facebook and Twitter.
We left out last week when the girls went to that CREEPY doll store, everything went crazy after that,....then Jenna turns in Page 5 of the autopsy report that was stolen and turns Garrett in for it! We leave with the girls watching as Garrett is arrested for the murder of Alison DeLaurentis. AND finding out that Jenna's surgery was successful and she CAN SEE! Also, we see that "A" pays the lady at the Doll Store for the 'damage'.

Garrett pleads 'not guilty'. My mom says 'their house is weird'. I agree. However, it's a set not an actual house. Oh, I digress.And now we know Melissa and Garrett know about the "Jenna Thing". 1st Threat from A: Bring back the phone or someone dies. Messenger at the door for Masquerade Ball....be there at midnight!
Oh-this is gonna be good. So I'm thinking that "A" will be revealed at the Ball...at Midnight!

So sad. Fitz is gone. They are in his apartment so apparently he still pays for it. Dr. Sullivan is brought up....did they ever find her? I don't think they did. Spencer finds a pen with the words "Dougherty's Landing" which is a air strip in the middle of nowhere. Apparently this is where Ali went the day she dissappeared. Also, I hate Aria's shirt.....

I believe it's "A" she is talking to. Ok, so Jenna knows "A". Which means that the Twin theory I have may actually be right. Grace agrees with me.

I definitely thought it was wayyyy anti-climatic and wayyyy too much of this I predicted. I was really hoping for a crazy plot twist. However, ALL NEW EPISODES start THIS SUMMER!!!!! :) :)

"This one's for the girls..." who don't like basketball...
I understand brackets and all that junk because, one, I have watched basketball for a long time and, two, I have a fiancee who spends HOURS on his little S-curves and RPI and SOS excel spreadsheets (and no, I don't exactly know what those mean). However, for the ladies that do not understand brackets and everything, I am going to give you some resources so #1 you can beat everyone in the office pool and #2 you can impress any guy. If this is your first time doing a bracket, then you probably have a good chance of winning against a guy. The less you think, the better. Guys put so much thought into every game and its not that big of a deal.

"Where I belong..."
Every morning, when I get to school I check CNN. It's just a habit. I like to be kept up with the news around the world. Every night when I get home from work I turn on the TV for the local news. Again, just to be informed. If you do watch the news, read the paper, or the internet, you can be honest and know that there isn't much out in the news to be happy about. The biggest issue concerning the media today deal with celebrities, Syria, and the GOP Presidential race. Throw Iran in there with gas prices and anything about soldiers in Afghanistan and you have got about 30 minutes of nothing but bad news. And it is not getting better. This world, with every generation is getting worse. Technologically better, morally worse. And you can see it start with youth. I mean even Socrates saw the youth in his day get worse:
"The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority, they show disrespect to their elders.... They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and are tyrants over their teachers."
Doesn't that sound like it applies to today??? Yet, that was thousands of years ago. I know sometimes I feel that there isn't any good in the world. That there is only hurt, pain, suffering, and if history is to tell us anything, it is only going to get worse.
But as a child of God, I know that there is a better day coming soon. That I can look at the bad in the news and I can look at the hurt, and the pain, and the suffering and KNOW without a doubt that when I breathe my FINAL breath, it's not the last. That it is only the beginning. The beginning. That this WORLD has NOTHING FOR ME. This world is only to bring pain. So, to turn on the news and to see the bad stuff, we shouldn't be shocked because SIN has taken over. We are at the worst it has ever been. However, there is hope! Hope in Jesus.
Sometimes, I may feel like an alien in this world, maybe an outsider because I am different. I am not of this world. This is not where I belong. Something better awaits me. My final home. And I can't wait.

"We don't need no education..."
First, let me preface this post by saying I LOVE my job. I LOVE my students, and care for them deeply. I work HARD everyday, even when I don't want to and want the best for every sweet little face that walks through my door. (Even when they are not so sweet...lol) Now, I'm going to complain a bit.
We, as educators are in desperate need of help...I'm not talking about money from the government, or better salaries (the good Lord knows that an educator doesn't walk in to this field because 'it's all about the Benjamins, baby), or even a better school building. All those things could help out, they could increase student achievement, student and teacher morale, and have a positive affect on the whole outlook of education....but what we need are so vital to the process, to the education of young impressionable minds...we need parents to STEP UP. I'm not calling every parent out. I commend parents who come to conferences, who reinforce expected behavior at home and consequences on the negative and I know that there are 1,001 things that could affect that child. I appreciate just a parent who tries. There is not an easy solution for everything and if we (teachers) can work together with parents, then REALLY the whole outlook on education could change. And maybe, you are thinking that 'Hey, I'm not a teacher and I don't have kids so this doesn't affect me', WRONG. If you are a citizen of the United States, it does affect you and concern you. It's not just parents that need to be involved, it's city council, it's members of any board, it's taxpayers, because let's face it....this place we call Earth ain't gettin' any better unless we get smarter. Plain and simple. Education is where you can curb the unemployment rate by creating jobs accessible to students right out of high school, or jobs that cooperate with community colleges. Education is where you can teach people to be better than the last generation. Education is where it starts. And when students feel like teachers, parents, and the general population really doesn't care--well they will develop the same attitude towards it. When students feel like they can just scoot by and aren't held to a higher standard, then they will. There needs to be some major reform in schools, in teaching itself! But we, the educators, cannot do it by ourselves. This has to be a complete group effort from all sides because we cannot do it alone.

The Final Countdown!....well, almost.
Wow! We are t-minus 3 Months and counting until The Baer/Mathis festivities take place! CRAZY! Justin and I just went down to Columbia to finalize things like food, decor, time, and things like that. I know its my wedding, but it is seriously going to rock your face off. The lady we met with was absolutely amazing. She is literally taking care of everything. Honestly, all I will have to do is show up, walk down the aisle, eat and dance, then leave. That's it! SUPER excited. I am most excited about the music, since Justin and I get to decide the playlist....which is a huge deal to me! That means the prelude, the songs in the wedding, AND reception music! You better be ready for some Lady Gaga, Usher, crazy-rap music from my high school years, cute, country-slow dance songs, and some big bad 80s music picked out by Justin Baer himself. I think music makes the whole wedding. I have been to weddings (won't name them here) where the ceremony was beautiful but the music just did not work with the whole theme of the wedding. (Side-note: our wedding theme is FUN-lol) Anyways, music sets the whole ambiance, atmosphere, and mood of the wedding. Music makes the world go 'round. So, if that's true, the importance of it in a wedding is crucial! Music can make some things fun, serious, romantic, and be used in sentimental moments. It's me bitches. -A
As you all should know, I am an avid ABC Family fan. They have some pretty decent shows and some decent original movies (except for Mean Girls 2....blah), One of the best shows they have on TV right now, and probably the one show that is keeping their ratings up is Pretty Little Liars. My Mondays are not complete without this show. It is crazy, weird, high school drama, suspense filled, and all of the awesomeness of high school and so we all can live vicariously through Hanna, Spencer, Emily, and Aria. And it doesn't just amuse people from 13-29....oh no, my MOM watches with me every Monday night. It is addicting. If you don't know what I'm talking about or haven't seen it...look for a Monday where they are having a marathon. They do those often. I think I like it so much because I do get to spend extra time with my mom, but the writers of this show are absolutely fantastic. They always keep you guessing and its just great drama for an hour on a night that usually hasn't been the best day--I mean Mondays suck. So I am glad that I get to look forward to Monday nights with the girls. And one of the best parts of the show is that I get the best text messages from Katie during the show commenting on stuff, like "what is Aria wearing?" I usually get this text or send this text, "Why is Caleb/Ezra so hot?" and "You don't love him/her." This last episode was amazingly awesome and I got this text, "ARE YOU WATCHING THIS?" If you are not watching this show you are missing out on some seriously good TV drama. Plus the dudes are hot.
